GLEN MACNOW

Consultant

Veteran Philadelphia journalist and media personality Glen Macnow serves as a writing coach and editor-at-large for Ceisler Media. Glen reviews and edits op-eds, press releases and other creative work created by Ceisler’s team.

And he works specifically as an advisor to the firm’s young associates, helping improve their writing skills and mentoring them on the media scene in and around Philadelphia.

Glen has been an influential voice in Philadelphia for three decades through newspapers, talk radio, television and books. He spent seven years at the Philadelphia Inquirer, capping a 16-year newspaper career that included stops in Fort Lauderdale and Detroit. As a reporter, Glen covered national politics, state government, education, sports business issues and was part of an award-winning investigative team.

He moved into broadcasting in the mid-1990s, and has been a fixture on Sports Radio 94-WIP ever since. Glen hosts the Philadelphia Eagles official radio pre-game show, and has been a commentator on Phillies and Flyers broadcasts. He has hosted more than 7,000 shows on Philadelphia radio. His weekend shows with Ray Didinger are consistently No. 1 in the rankings during their time slot.

He has written five books for adults and 15 for children. “The Great Philadelphia Fan Book,” spent several weeks on the USA Today Best Sellers List despite its limited geographic appeal.

Glen has also worked in television, conceiving the idea for a no-holds-barred TV show in which Philadelphia writers would argue topical issues. “The Great Sports Debate” ran on PRISM and later on Comcast SportsNet for a total of 10 years in two separate runs.

He spent six years as a journalism instructor at St. Joseph’s University. He has been active in charities benefiting Alzheimer’s research and the Movember Foundation, which raises money for men’s health issues.

In 2016, Glen was inducted into the Philadelphia Jewish Sports Hall of Fame

Glen and Judy Macnow live in Havertown, PA. Their sons, Ted and Alex Macnow, are both physicians. They have two grandsons.

Glen took up acting as a hobby in recent years. He has appeared in two community theater productions, had a short speaking role in a feature film, got to stand next to actor Bryan Cranston in another film and was upstaged by Gus the Groundhog in a commercial for the Pennsylvania Lottery.

Glen is a partner in the Conshohocken Brewing Co., which opened in 2014. The brewery now how four brewpub/restaurant locations and distributes through Southeast Pennsylvania and South Jersey.

Glen was an active hockey player for most of his life, once scoring a goal in a charity game with assists from Tim Kerr and Brian Propp. One too many broken bones ended that hobby, and his play is now limited to being a stand-in goalie for the neighborhood kids’ weekend street hockey games.
